Breakfast With A View, originally uploaded by (Luciano).

not my standard breakfast

Not staged. Generic runner passing by while I had a camera in my pocket.

The River Crossing.

Always tough deciding what to do.

Since it’s an out and back, hence you have to cross it twice, I took socks and shoes off going out, and kept them on coming back.

I definitely prefer the former, slower but much more comfortable after. YMMV.

Some much needed summer feeling

A printed sample of this one got better reviews than the one I posted earlier, which is still my favorite from that night, so I decided to give it a chance.

I wasn’t running, so I had fun watching other people doing it.

Talk about History, here.

These shoes were given to me by my coach when I was in High School. And that would be 30 (thirty) years ago.

I asked him yesterday about the story behind them, but we couldn’t come up with a definitive answer.

At the time he was a good miler, but didn’t have much money. It was customary at the track and field meetings to ask the professional, or sponsored, athletes for t-shirts and stuff, they usually had a lot of material for free.

Anyway, New Balance, made in the USA (something you don’t see that often nowadays in that market), when running shoes were just shoes one used for running. There were no discussions, nor awareness, about support, minimalism, overpronation and so on.

I remember going for the lightest I could find, and just running.

Being a gift, I didn’t want to abuse these shoes, so I ran in them only a few times and remember absolutely loving them. Light, responsive, with a touch of cushioning.

Now they are slowly dissolving, but still great to look at from time to time. They bring back great memories.

Trail Runner Magazine is my second favorite running magazine right now (Running Times being the first), chocolate croissants were still in the oven at the time, and say what you want, but I love the texture of thick coffee cups. I think they are really photogenic.

Relay, originally uploaded by (Luciano).

Some shoes have great stories, accomplishments, a ‘first’ race, a tough race, a memorable one.

Some don’t, but they are not less important.

Those Saucony Ride 2 stood by my side, in a matter of speaking, in a time of aching tendons and sagging morale. Never complained once for the slow pace or the frequent walking breaks. They just worked, barely noticeable, but the only pair I could wear without pain.

Now they are tired, ready to be replaced by their twins, which will carry a heritage of comfort and support. And faster races will hopefully be possible thanks to their acceptance of their place in my history.
